Peter CarrollParliamentary Spokesman for Maidstone and the Weald
Peter Carroll owns a group of transport related companies in the Maidstone area. He is widely recognized on the local and regional media as the voice of the Lib Dems in Kent and has lead high profile campaigns that have featured extensively in the national media on Fuel costs and justice for retired Gurkhas (www.maidstonelibdems.org.uk/gurkhajustice/). Peter, 47, is married to Lynne and has 4 step children and 5 step grandchildren. In his varied career, he has been a research scientist and an Officer in the Royal Air Force. For the last 15 years he has developed his transport companies and can speak with first hand experience on transport related matters such as the impact of high energy prices. Peter has a Physics and Electronic Engineering degree from the University of Manchester and is a member of the Royal British Legion and Freeman of the City of London. Peter has a reputation for campaigning on keeping health services local, fighting to stop Post Office closures and arguing for a more visible Police presence on our street. Peter believes that the most effective politicians can perform at the national level but are always deeply rooted in their local area. His parliamentary ambition is to be a powerful and effective voice on the national stage for the people of Maidstone & The Weald and a powerful ally and advocate on the most local of issues. Fri 22nd May 2009: Justice Done: New Government Decision Great Victory for Gurkhas All Gurkha veterans who retired before 1997 with at least four years' service will be allowed to settle in the UK, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has said. Under the measures, Gurkhas will be allowed to settle in the UK with their spouses and dependent children under 18.
