At the end of the School holidays last year, the County Council announced the temporary closure of the footbridge over the Medway from Maidstone East Station for refurbishment.

The bridge is used by over 400 children everyday. The children would have to walk through the busiest part of Town via the main road bridge.

The work was stopped following protests from Local Lib Dem Councillors.

County Officers, have confirmed that the much needed work including better lighting will now take place during this year's school summer holidays.
