An Inconvenient Truth9.47.00pm GMT Mon 5th Nov 2007
Sustainable Maidstone, with the support of Maidstone Borough Council, has arranged two free showings of Nobel Prize winning Al Gore's film 'An Inconvenient Truth'. These will be shown at The Exchange on Saturday 10th November at 3pm and 6pm. Between the film showings there will be discussion on climate change and what practical measures we can take to reduce our impact on the environment. Stuart Jeffery, Chair of Sustainable Maidstone: "Al Gore's film gives a very clear message on the effects of our actions on the environment. We have 8 years left to tackle our carbon emmissions if we are to prevent the worst of climate change. We hope that increasing awareness of the issues and providing an impetus for local action we can add our voice and energy to a solution to this global problem. We cannot expect others to reduce carbon emmissions unless we show leadership and make this change ourselves. "We urge everyone to come and see the film and get involved with local action. We have a duty to our children and grandchildren to leave them a habitable planet." Cllr Tony Harwood, Lib Dem MBC Cabinet Member for Environment: "Rapid man-made climate change is the greatest challenge facing the human race. I urge Maidstone residents to visit The Exchange, Market Buildings on Saturday 10th November for one of the free-screenings of the award winning 'An Inconvenient Truth' and to take part in the associated debate. It is essential that we all change our polluting ways now and this film sets out starkly the reasons why."
