11.17.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 4th Oct 2006

Maidstone, like many other Towns in the Southeast has been suffering from Government Planning policies that force councils to accept high density development.

Counciilor Clive English

Councillor Clive English critisises Governments "..absurd planning regulations."

The town has seen development crammed into back gardens, single houses replaced with multiple units and houses converted into several flats, often without adequate parking or anywhere for children to play. Liberal Democrats on Maidstone Council are opposed to the Governments policy(set out in planning policy guidance note 3) and are campaigning to change it.

On 27th September Maidstone Borough Council approved a motion proposed by Lib Dem councillors,Clive English and Dan Daley to use every opportunity and avenue open to the Council to seek to persuade the Government to adopt a more rational approach to Planning policy.

The Council will be working with other councils, and with local government associations and members of parliament of all parties to try to overturn the governments absurd regulations.
